Recommendation: Big Shots

Milpitas, California, the year is 1973. Charles Hicks is born, later to be known as Charizma. With a Big L flow and a De La saz, I can’t believe how slept on this is. While some experienced wild fame boosts after they died (Dilla, Big L etc.) Charizma was more or less forgotten. This is a shame, because Big Shots is one of the best early 90s/ late 80s hip hop albums I’ve heard (i love that era). It’s like every other album at this time + better, clearer flow from Charizma and more original and fresh production from PBW. This is also the way it’s supposed to be, one MC and one DJ making an album. And this was the case in 1989 when 16 year old Charlie C hooked up with then 19 year old Peanut Butter Wolf then named Chris Manak. Charizma was tragically killed in 1993, devastating considering that he was a better rapper at the age of 16 than most rappers will ever be.
Be certain to get this, you will not be disappointed at all, most likely blown away. One of those albums that if you haven’t heard it before, it hurls Charizma up to your top 10 MCs and PBW up in your top 10 producers.

Nysvis | August 24, 2008Yeah, Big Shots is effing insane. I just have to wonder why in the hell it took ten years to release this album. Better late than never, I guess. :-\
